Self-service school meals model
As pioneers, we’re introducing a self-service model of school dining in the Czech Republic, inspired by the Finnish approach. Children serve themselves, so they have to determine the quantity and composition of their lunch based on a displayed sample portion. When they’re done eating, they sort their leftovers and place the dishes into a dishwasher. The goal is to teach the young diners about independence and responsibility. Not only they waste less food this way, but also learn the principles of sustainable eating and the value of food. Also, by setting example to each other, they’re encouraged to taste dishes they would otherwise avoid.
